Woodchop 2A great core exercise to help increace your hooking power.

Get in your boxing stance with a medicine ball on your lead (front) hip. Rotate at the waist and bring the ball across your chest and up to your shoulder. Return the ball to your lead hip.

After a number of reps change stance and repeat the above to balance out the exercise. Try and keep your movements fairly explosive throughout.
