Performance Jiu-Jitsu is the passion project of Simon Squires, a competitor and instructor. With vast experiences in jiu jitsu, Simon has spent the greater part of two years developing the framework for the academy that has become the Performance Jiu-Jitsu team.


Performance Jiu-Jitsu is for everyone; we are focused on establishing a family-friendly, inclusive environment for athletes with all levels of skill and interest in the sport. With a curriculum designed for anyone at every level, Performance Jiu-Jitsu seeks to empower all its members and help them achieve their goals on and off the mats. BJJ is for everybody. It doesn’t matter whether you are young or old, male or female, fit or out of shape. Jiu Jitsu is for you, regardless of your level of physical capability. Anyone can benefit from BJJ classes. Everyone is welcome to come and train, no matter what team they’re affiliated with. We made it our mission to provide everyone with the best possible environment in which to learn and practice Jiu Jitsu.

Classes at the club are led by Simon Squires under professors Tom Barlow and Chelsea Leah.


BJJ Beginner Package

      Essentials Classes 

  • Our Essentials classes are for you.

  • Don’t let the name fool you though, in our essentials classes you’ll learn everything from simple techniques like a triangle to more complicated techniques Berimbolos to crab rides and a lot more.

  • Essentially, if it’s in Jiu Jitsu, we’ll cover it at some point in our essentials classes.

  • Classes available in the mornings, daytimes and evenings.

      Comp Classes

  • Not everyone wants to compete (and we never force our students to compete), but if you do, our comp classes are for you.

  • Within six months of Performance Jiu-Jitsu opening, we had already built one of the top competition teams in the country. This success was due to our competition programe. To this day, our students regularly compete and win national and international competitions at the highest level of Jiu Jitsu.

  • Classes available in the evenings and Sunday morning 

       No Gi / Submission Grappling

  • Our No Gi BJJ or Submission Grappling classes are just like our Essentials classes only with less Gi. In this session, you’ll learn everything from takedowns to toe holds without the GI.

  • Classes available in the mornings and evenings.
